A Councilor Who Makes a Difference

Don't get me wrong but I am not endorsing any politician for candidacy in the upcoming election but I would like to stress out that the blog that I have recently bumped into is interesting. Up to this point, I have not registered to COMELEC yet as a voter because I have been disgusted with how Philippine Politics is. Not until I read this councilor's blog recently.

Meet Councilor Peter Laviña's blog of the 1st district of Davao City where the district I also belong. His blog discusses about his work as a city councilor. I find his blog interesting because for one, I know that this councilor is really working since he blogs his works, daily encounters as a councilor, his advocacies in the political arena and his passion for serving the people of Davao City. His political opinions on present political issues benefit his readers critical thinking. In this manner, his readers, particularly his constituents may be able to benchmark his political stand on present day issues. It gives a sense of transparency for his supporters and the entire Dabawenyo's on how will Councilor Laviña act, decide and react for what is the best option for Davao and the whole Mindanao. It has been my first time to know a politician who blogs personally. We've heard a lot of politicians who have websites but they have their staff who assist them. Unlike traditional politicians, this young and energetic councilor who passionately blogs about his daily routines and upcoming activities, he has definitely made a significant contribution to the blogging community and a way forming a new dimension of new age political work and advocacy.

His blog is very informative. You would never run out of topics to participate. He is also actively researching on how to pattern some international laws crafted from other countries and be applied in our country. Quite insightful like the Airline Passenger's Bill of Rights of New York. Some of his posts are also into campaigns of awareness of how the government is doing that bad like the Cost Overruns post, and how can he contribute to the welfare of public school children like promoting Banana Chips as an alternative snack. His blogs reflect how our nation, particularly Davao, has been politically mature, socially aware and how are we dynamically embracing the new style and concept of legislation.

I hope fellow Dabawenyos will help Councilor Laviña attain his goals and advocacies for the improvement of Davao City in contributing more ideas on developing certain sectors of the society. Also this can help in promoting the political and social maturity of his constituents and even his fellow politicians. His blog maybe our own tool for Davao's fast development by promoting awareness of what needs to be developed through his drafted bills.
